A man aged 45 was fatally shot by police after allegedly firing gunshots near officers during a traffic stop in the Manchester Square area. The victim has been identified as Michael Edward Meadows, and the shooting took place at around 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday near Florence and Western avenues, as confirmed by the county Medical Examiner’s office and the Los Angeles Police Department.
In a statement released several hours after the incident, the police mentioned, “Officers were conducting a traffic stop for a red-light violation in the area of Western Avenue and Florence Avenue when officers heard and saw a male fire several shots.”
Subsequently, the police added, “Officers returned fire, resulting in the suspect being struck by gunfire. The Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene. A ghost gun, retrieved at the location, will serve as evidence. The investigation is currently exploring the intended target of the suspect.”
Prior to the shooting, the suspect approached the officers on foot and opened fire, according to the initial reports. Luckily, no officers sustained any injuries during the incident.
As part of the investigation, authorities discovered an illicit marijuana dispensary. Approximately six individuals found inside the dispensary were detained and taken to the LAPD’s 77th Street station. The investigation is ongoing.
