The F1 Championship: Red Bull’s Dominance is Challenged as Rivals Close the Gap

FILE PHOTO: Max Verstappen, the driver for Red Bull, and Christian Horner, the team principal, were pictured together during the final practice session before the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. After the race, Horner acknowledged the possibility of Verstappen winning every race this season, but he emphasized the unpredictable nature of the sport. With Red Bull winning all eight races this season and nine in a row if we include last year’s Abu Dhabi finale, it’s hard to ignore the team’s domination. However, the last time a team won every race in a season was in 1952, with McLaren coming closest in 1988. Verstappen has won six out of eight races this year, including the last four consecutively. Despite his impressive performance, there are signs of hope for his competitors. The winning margin in Montreal was the smallest so far, indicating that other teams are closing the gap. Aston Martin, Mercedes, and Ferrari have all made improvements to their cars, and Hamilton believes they are making progress. While Verstappen’s dominance is evident, Red Bull’s dependence on him for victories could be seen as a vulnerability. His teammate Sergio Perez is currently in second place but has not qualified in the top 10 or stood on the podium in the last three races. Alonso, on the other hand, is closing in on Perez and believes he can beat him in the championship. If Verstappen were to encounter any setbacks, his rival teams would see opportunities to challenge the Red Bull dominance.
