Meta’s Quest and Quest Pro have long been the go-to headsets for accessing the underdeveloped metaverse. However, the introduction of Apple’s Vision Pro augmented and virtual reality device has disrupted the status quo. Variety reports that Meta co-founder Mark Zuckerberg had some opinions on the competitor’s product during the first Meta all-hands meeting in three years. Zuckerberg criticized Apple’s lack of technological advancements and dedication to an isolated experience. By contrast, Meta’s vision is to create a “fundamentally social” experience meant to be shared with others. Additionally, he noted that Apple’s pricey $3,499 cost places the product outside of many consumers’ budgets. Meta has long been investing in the metaverse, having spent $13.7 billion on the technology. While Apple won’t release its Vision Pro for another few years, this gives Meta an opportunity to stay ahead in the race for virtual reality dominance.
