The Apple Software Bug and Specific Apps Contributing to iPhone Overheating – What You Need to Know | iPhone

Apple has identified the causes of an overheating problem with its latest iPhone series, including a software bug and certain app usage.

In a statement, Apple announced that it will release an update to fix the bug in its iOS 17 software. The company is also collaborating with developers whose apps have been causing the overheating issue. iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max users had reported that their devices were becoming excessively hot during use, reaching temperatures over 43C (110F).

According to Apple, “We have identified a few conditions which can cause iPhone to run warmer than expected.”

Apple revealed that they are in the process of developing an update for the iOS17 system, powering the iPhone 15 lineup, to prevent the devices from becoming uncomfortably hot. They are also working with app developers to address issues related to excessive system overload caused by these apps. Additionally, Apple acknowledged that users may experience warmth during the initial use or restoration of the device due to increased background activity.

To address the overheating problem, Instagram, owned by Meta (formerly Facebook), has already modified its app to prevent it from causing device heating on the latest iPhone operating system. However, apps like Uber and Asphalt 9 are still in the process of introducing their updates, according to Apple. Apple did not provide a specific timeline for the release of their software fix. Nevertheless, they reassured users that there are no safety issues with the iPhone 15 and that long-term performance will not be affected.

Apple emphasized that the software update will have no impact on the phone’s performance.

Last week, users of the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models expressed their concerns about overheating issues on Apple’s community forum. One user wrote, “I’ve had the new iPhone 15 Pro and it’s so hot, it’s too hot to hold,” while another user questioned, “My skin hurts! What is going on with the iPhone 15 Pro Max?”

Ben Wood, the chief analyst at CCS Insight, commented on Apple’s response, saying, “It is interesting to see that Apple has responded to the concerns around the iPhone 15 Pro devices getting hot. There was always an option to tweak the software to mitigate thermal issues, and this appears to be the approach it has taken.”
