Texas Woman in Silsbee Assaulted by Snake and Hawk During Lawn Mowing

  • Peggy Jones had an extraordinary encounter while mowing her yard in Silsbee, Texas. Out of nowhere, a snake fell from the sky and wrapped around her arm. As she struggled to remove the snake, a hawk intervened and clawed at her arm until it successfully pried the snake off.

A remarkable incident occurred in Silsbee, Texas as a woman was mowing her lawn. A snake suddenly fell from the sky and landed on her. To her surprise, a hawk immediately swooped down and attacked both the snake and her.

Peggy Jones shared her terrifying experience with KPRC-TV, a local news outlet. While mowing her backyard, a snake unexpectedly landed on her arm and tightly coiled around it.

“I was mowing on our property when, out of the clear blue, a snake fell onto my arm,” she recounted to KPRC.

Jones attempted to free herself from the snake’s grip, but it continued to tighten and strike at her face, hitting her glasses. As she tried to shake the snake off, a hawk repeatedly clawed at her arm, relentlessly trying to grab the snake.

“I just kept saying, ‘Help me, Jesus, Help me, Jesus,'” she expressed. The hawk dove down multiple times until it finally succeeded in pulling the snake away.

“Finally, he got the snake and took off with it. I looked down and saw that I was covered in blood, with my arm torn up,” she noted. Additionally, the venom from the snake had also splattered onto the right lens of her glasses.

Photographs published by the news outlet showcased Jones’s arm covered in cuts and blood. Her husband immediately rushed her to the hospital, where even the doctors found it hard to believe her astonishing story. Fortunately, Jones did not sustain any serious injuries, although the incident left her emotionally scarred.

The specific type of snake remains unidentified, but Jones believes that the hawk may have dropped it on her. While hawks primarily feed on small mammals like squirrels or mice, they are known to prey on snakes as well. Red-tailed hawks, in particular, possess exceptional skills in snake hunting and even consume venomous snakes such as rattlesnakes.

Jones strongly believes that the hawk’s intervention ultimately saved her life. “I think that was God’s way of letting me live because I couldn’t figure out a way — the snake was not letting go of my arm,” she expressed, adding, “I just feel thankful that I’m alive.”
