During a visit to Edinburg, Texas, Donald Trump picked up the endorsement of Governor Greg Abbott on Sunday, promising that his hard-line immigration policies in a potential second presidential term would make Abbott’s “job much easier.” Abbott expressed his pride in his endorsement of the former president, calling for the need for Trump back in the U.S. as president owing to the necessity of a secure border.
Earlier in the day, Trump and Abbott handed out tacos and posed for pictures with Texas National Guard soldiers, troopers, and other personnel who will be stationed at the border over the Thanksgiving holiday, generally thanking them for their service.
Trump didn’t get into detail about his prospective policies, but he expressed his intention to build more border wall. He also outlined his plans for immigration reform that included reviving and expanding the travel ban and deporting immigrants who have “jihadist” sympathies.
Trump’s proposals drawn criticism from civil rights activists and numerous court challenges. Pollings show that many voters are not satisfied with the Biden administration’s handling of border security and immigration.
