Tesla, led by Elon Musk, is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with drivers who claim that the company provided inaccurate information regarding the mileage capacity of their electric vehicles.
A group of three Tesla owners have initiated a class-action lawsuit in the United States, asserting that their vehicles failed to achieve the promised ranges and that the company did not address their complaints adequately.
One of the plaintiffs, James Porter, who owns a Model Y, reported that during one trip, he lost around 182 miles of range despite only driving 92 miles.
The lawsuit alleges that Tesla violated vehicle warranties, engaged in fraudulent practices, and participated in unfair competition.
The lawsuit further argues, “If Tesla had provided truthful information about the range of its electric vehicles, consumers would either not have purchased Tesla models or would have paid significantly less for them.”
These complaints shed light on the growing concern known as “range anxiety,” in which electric vehicle owners worry that their batteries will not have enough charge to reach their destination, potentially leaving them stranded.
This fear is especially pronounced in areas with limited electric vehicle charging infrastructure and serves as an obstacle to wider adoption of the technology.
It should be noted that Tesla and Musk face additional legal challenges.
Musk, who now goes by the name X on Twitter, is being sued by a prominent French news agency for allegedly refusing to compensate for featuring their news content.
Agence France Presse (AFP) has filed a lawsuit in Paris, claiming that Musk, under the name X, failed to engage in negotiations with the news agency as required by French law.
In 2019, France enacted a news bargaining code that mandates Big Tech companies to pay news publishers for using their content.
