Tennessee Titans’ Week 9 Injury Report: Updates, Players’ Status, and Impact on the Team

The Pittsburgh Steelers conducted a walk-through session on Tuesday in preparation for their Thursday night clash against the Tennessee Titans at Acrisure Stadium.

During practice, quarterback Kenny Pickett was limited due to a rib injury sustained against the Jaguars. However, Pickett expressed confidence that he would be ready to go for Thursday night’s game.

“I’m definitely playing,” declared Pickett.

Minkah Fitzpatrick, the team’s safety, has been ruled out for the game due to a hamstring injury suffered in the previous match. In his absence, the secondary players will need to step up, especially in terms of communication. Keanu Neal, another safety, acknowledged the challenge but emphasized the “next man up” mentality.

“Losing a guy like Minkah is always tough. He is a dynamic player, a crucial part of our defense. However, we came together, made some adjustments, and got things going,” stated Neal.

Due to the limited time available on a short week, the Steelers will focus on adapting without Fitzpatrick. However, they remain optimistic about their game plan and the ability of the team to execute it.

“Having some time to prepare is beneficial. We can review film together and establish our game plan. The absence of Minkah brings challenges, but we’ll overcome them,” expressed Neal.

Coach Mike Tomlin mentioned several players who could fulfill Fitzpatrick’s role, including Damontae Kazee, Miles Killebrew, and Elijah Riley. Although Riley has primarily played on special teams, this week could mark an opportunity for increased defensive involvement.

“The most important thing is being prepared each week, maintaining the ‘next guy up’ mentality. We support each other and want to see everyone succeed. Our approach remains the same. We have a job to do on Thursday night,” emphasized Riley.

While individual preparations may not change significantly, Riley anticipates more defensive snaps compared to his usual special teams focus in practice.

“As part of the special teams, we typically don’t engage in defensive movements as much during practice. However, this week requires us to be prepared in all aspects. My personal preparation won’t change. I always prepare as if I’ll be on the field, maybe with a little more intensity this time,” shared Riley.

In response to Fitzpatrick’s injury, the Steelers signed safety Jalen Elliott to their practice squad and released linebacker David Perales. Elliott had previously been with the team during training camp in the summer.

Elliott entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2020 Draft, signing with the Detroit Lions. He spent his rookie season on the Lions’ practice squad, appearing in eight games and starting one. After being with the New England Patriots during training camp in 2022, Elliott also had a stint with the Las Vegas Raiders.
