In Huntington Beach, a young boy was taken into custody on Thursday after being linked to a series of hit-and-run incidents, including one that resulted in a fatality. Due to his age, the suspect remains unnamed. According to Jessica Cuchilla, spokesperson for the Huntington Beach Police Department, the arrest took place at approximately 9 p.m. on Tuesday. The boy has been charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon and was subsequently booked into Orange County Juvenile Hall.
Authorities were alerted to the first incident at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. A motorist at the intersection of Brad Drive and Edwards Street was reportedly deliberately targeting a bicyclist. The victim suffered minor injuries. Meanwhile, at Heil Avenue and Springdale Street, another cyclist was struck, resulting in the death of 70-year-old Steven Gonzales of Huntington Beach. Then, at Warner Avenue and Edwards Street, yet another cyclist reported being hit by a hit-and-run driver, sustaining minor injuries. The suspect was apprehended following the discovery of a black Toyota four-door car believed to have been involved in the attacks.
