Taylor Swift Surpasses Barbra Streisand’s Record for Most No. 1 Albums

  • Taylor Swift’s latest album, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” has debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
  • This achievement marks Swift’s 12th album to reach the top spot, making her the female artist with the most number one albums in history.
  • In addition, Swift has also made history by having four albums in the top 10 of the chart, a feat that no other female artist has accomplished.

Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” has debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart, making it the biggest album of 2023 so far, surpassing all other releases.

This incredible achievement marks Swift’s 12th album to reach the coveted top spot on the chart, breaking the previous record held by Barbra Streisand for the most number one albums by a female artist. It’s important to note that The Beatles hold the overall record with 19 number one albums, followed by Jay-Z with 14.

In addition to this milestone, Swift has also set a new record as the only woman to have four albums simultaneously in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart. Alongside “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” at number one, her albums “Midnights” (number 5), “Lover” (number 7), and “Folklore” (number 10) have secured their places in the top rankings.

This accomplishment marks the first time in 60 years that a living artist has achieved such a feat since Herb Alpert in 1966. The only other musician to dominate the chart to this extent was Prince, who had five albums in the top 10 following a surge in streaming numbers after his unexpected passing in 2016.

Prior to this achievement, Swift already held the record as the only living solo artist to have 10 or more albums charting simultaneously on the Billboard 200. Posthumous releases from Prince, David Bowie, and Whitney Houston, as well as albums from The Beatles after their breakup, also achieved this milestone.

It’s worth mentioning that “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” is the third album that Swift has re-recorded after losing the legal rights to her original masters. In 2021, she released “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” and “Red (Taylor’s Version)”, with plans to re-record her self-titled debut album, “1989”, and “Reputation”.

“Speak Now” holds a unique place in Swift’s discography as it is the only album she wrote entirely on her own. The original version, released in 2010 when Swift was between the ages of 18 and 20, has now been revitalized in her current version at the age of 32. The re-recorded version also includes six previously unreleased tracks.

Notably, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” also features a significant lyrical change in the fan-favorite song “Better Than Revenge” due to criticism of its misogynistic lyrics.
