Taylor Swift is Adored by Food Banks Nationwide

  • Taylor Swift, while on tour, has been generously donating large amounts of money to food banks across the country.
  • In late July, one of the recipients of her donations was Second Harvest in Silicon Valley.
  • According to the chief philanthropy officer of Second Harvest, this donation will help feed 500,000 people this month.

Taylor Swift is not only selling out stadiums on her tour, but she is also using the money from her hefty ticket prices to make significant donations to local food pantries and banks throughout the country.

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, a food bank serving San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, received a substantial donation from Swift on July 28th, according to Shobana Gubbi, the chief philanthropy officer.

Gubbi expressed her excitement about receiving the donation, stating that it was the best day and that everyone at Second Harvest was thrilled. She also thanked Taylor for using her platform for good and supporting food banks across the country during her tour.

With a net worth estimated at over $740 million, Swift’s tour has the potential to make her a billionaire. Forbes previously predicted that she could earn around $500 million from the tour.

Gubbi could not disclose the exact amount of money donated by Swift, but she mentioned that the funds are unrestricted, allowing Second Harvest to use them as they see fit. She added that 95 cents out of every $1 donated goes directly back into providing their services.

Before the pandemic, Second Harvest served approximately 250,000 people per month. Now, that number has increased to around 500,000, with one in six people in Silicon Valley needing food assistance.

Gubbi explained that inflation and mass layoffs in Silicon Valley have put additional strain on food banks in the area. The end of pandemic-era increases in CalFresh EBT benefits has also added to the burden on struggling families.

According to Gubbi, having supporters like Taylor Swift raises awareness about the solvable problem of hunger. She believes that together, they can end hunger.

Second Harvest is not the only food bank to receive donations from Taylor Swift. CNN reported that she has made similar contributions to the Arizona Food Bank Network, Seattle’s Food Lifeline, and Three Square Food Bank, which serves the Las Vegas and southern Nevada area.

Swift has a history of philanthropy, including donations to food banks, libraries, and organizations that support survivors of sexual assault. Her generosity extends to helping her fans with student loans and providing service dogs.
