Taylor Swift fan receives unexpected electronic vinyl instead of Speak Now

A Taylor Swift fan received a surprising and confusing package when her highly anticipated vinyl of the singer’s latest album turned out to contain an electronic track with an ominous warning instead. Rachel Hunter, a Swiftie from Staffordshire, had ordered Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), a re-recording of Taylor Swift’s 2010 hit country album. However, when she went to play the vinyl after a month of waiting, she discovered that the music was not performed by Taylor Swift at all. Instead, she heard ‘Happy Land’ by Ultramarine on one side and ‘Soul Vine (70 Billion People)’ by Cabaret Voltaire on the B-side. The lyrics to ‘Soul Vine’ begin with the eerie line, “70 billion people in this world, where are they hiding?” After some investigation, Rachel found out that these songs were actually from the album ‘Happy Land: A Compendium of Electronic Music from the British Isles 1992-1996 Volume 1.’

Rachel was perplexed and a little terrified by the mix-up, especially because she had played the vinyl at night in the dark. She described the voice on the track as creepy and found the whole experience unsettling. Taking to TikTok, she shared a clip of the track, and some fans jokingly claimed that ’70 billion people’ was their favorite vault track. It remains to be seen if Taylor Swift will incorporate the electronic track as a surprise song during her Eras tour.

In response to the mishap, Dan Hill, the managing director of Above Board, the label that distributed the misprinted copies, issued a statement explaining that it was a pressing blunder and expressed hope that anyone who received the incorrect vinyl would enjoy the unexpected beats. While this mix-up was out of their control, Hill suggested that the vinyl might become a collector’s item.

On the brighter side, Taylor Swift’s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) has already achieved considerable success, earning over 575,000 equivalent album units in the United States within just four days of its release. The album sales accounted for 400,000 units, with 225,000 of those being vinyl copies, marking the largest sales week for this category this year. Additional sales came from CDs, digital album downloads, and cassette tape purchases.

Meanwhile, fans in the UK and Europe are eagerly trying to secure tickets for Taylor Swift’s forthcoming international leg of her Eras tour, which is projected to generate more than $1 billion in revenue. The tour includes dates in cities like Paris, Stockholm, Lisbon, Madrid, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff, London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Zurich, Milan, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Munich, Warsaw, and Vienna. Swifties are excited to experience this anticipated tour and hope for more surprises along the way.
