The Los Angeles Police Department announced on Thursday that murder charges have been filed against the suspect in the case involving the discovery of a woman’s torso in a San Fernando Valley trash bin.
Samuel Haskell, a 35-year-old Los Angeles resident, is currently in custody with a $2,000,000 bail.
Following video evidence from the scene in Encino, law enforcement authorities were led to Tarzana, culminating in Haskell’s arrest at a mall in Topanga on suspicion of murder.
The shocking discovery occurred after an individual looking through dumpster bins in the vicinity of Ventura Boulevard and Rubio Avenue found a bag containing a woman’s torso around 6 a.m.
The investigation has also resulted in the search for three people connected to Haskell who are currently unaccounted for, including the suspect’s wife and her parents:
- Mei Haskell;
- Gaoshan Li, aged 72, who is 5-foot-6-inches tall and weighs approximately 140 pounds;
- YanXiang Wang, aged 64, who is 5-foot-4-inches tall and weighs around 135 pounds.
The police confirmed that the three elementary-aged children living in the Clearstream home are safe and under the care of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.
