- T-Pain recently opened up to Insider about the challenges he faced after achieving fame at a young age.
- The singer gained popularity at just 21 years old in 2005 with the release of his debut album, “Rappa Ternt Sanga.”
- T-Pain stated that the pressure of his success had a significant impact on his mental well-being.
T-Pain, now 38, rose to fame at the age of 21 with the release of his first album, “Rappa Ternt Sanga,” which featured hit singles like “I’m Sprung” and “I’m N Luv (Wit a Stripper).” Over the years, he became a regular on the charts, both through his own music and collaborations with others. Between 2007 and 2008, he charted 13 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including three number ones: “Kiss Kiss” with Chris Brown, “Low” with Flo Rida, and “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’).”
T-Pain acknowledged that success wasn’t all he thought it would be and took a toll on his mental state. In an interview with Insider while promoting his latest Lipton Iced Tea collaboration, he explained that the intense touring schedule was overwhelming and exhausting. T-Pain admits that he “just didn’t expect” being on top to be “that much work.” He now realizes that the reality of being number one requires even more effort, and he wasn’t ready for it at age 22.
Reflecting on his experience, he shared that being older and having more life experience would have made a huge difference for him. Despite his early struggles, T-Pain hasn’t stopped creating music. Earlier this year, he released his seventh studio album, “On Top of the Covers,” which features covers of Sam Cooke, Journey, and Black Sabbath. He has also partnered with Lipton for a new product launch, a refreshing spin on Len’s “Steal My Sunshine”, consisting of frozen ice pops in flavors like green tea citrus and peach iced tea. T-Pain plans to continue making covers albums annually.
Additionally, T-Pain aspires to make an orchestral album in the future. “It’s gonna be some Hans Zimmer-type sh*t,” he remarked.
