Two individuals, a man and a woman, along with two juveniles, are facing charges of felony robbery after allegedly robbing a jewelry store at the Palm Desert mall. The suspects, identified as Mason Tyler Barron, 21, from Hemet, and Cleopatra Tredai Jones, 25, from Los Angeles, are scheduled to be arraigned on Friday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
The incident took place on Tuesday at approximately 5:15 p.m. in the 72-800 block of Highway 111. Deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. Sergeant Daniel Milbrandt of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department stated, “Deputies arrived at the scene and discovered that a jewelry store in the vicinity had been robbed by four suspects who used sledgehammers and glass-breaking tools to shatter display cases. Witnesses observed the suspects fleeing in a red sedan, and deputies were able to quickly locate the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Monterey Avenue.”
After a collision with another vehicle, the suspects were taken into custody. The vehicle became inoperable due to the crash, and the suspects fled in the area of Monterey Avenue and Dinah Shore Drive, where Jones, Barron, and the two juveniles were apprehended.
Barron is currently being held without bail at the John J. Benoit Detention Center, while Jones is held on $250,000 bail at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility.
The two juveniles have been detained at Juvenile Hall.
Prior to this incident, Barron had one conviction of grand theft over $950, but Jones has no prior felony convictions.
Authorities are investigating whether the suspects may be connected to other robberies in Riverside and Orange counties. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Investigator Roman Lugo of the Palm Desert sheriff’s station at 760-836-1600.
