A 28-year-old man has been apprehended for two reported abductions in Long Beach, prompting the police to urge potential victims to come forward.
On June 1, officers from the Long Beach Police Department were alerted to an attempted kidnapping in the 1200 block of Chestnut Avenue at approximately 7:40 p.m.
The Long Beach Police Department’s sex crime detectives swiftly initiated an investigation into the alleged assault, gathering substantial evidence linking Eugene Martindale III to the crime and obtaining a warrant for his arrest.
According to the police department, initial findings revealed that a 12-year-old girl was walking on the sidewalk when Martindale tried to engage with her. Despite the girl ignoring his advances and continuing her walk, the suspect persisted in his attempts to converse with her. Subsequently, Martindale approached the victim from behind, encircled her with his arms, and made an effort to abduct her. Fortunately, the girl managed to escape, but Martindale fled the scene before the arrival of law enforcement.
Martindale was already in custody by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for a separate incident in Carson that transpired around 6:55 a.m. on Sunday.
Sex crime detectives suspect that there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. To aid in their investigation, the police have released a photograph of the suspect to the public.
Individuals with any information regarding the suspect or the alleged crimes are encouraged to contact the LBPD Sex Crime Detail at 562-570-7368. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
