Susan Hall emerges victorious in the Tory London mayoral race, poised to challenge Sadiq Khan

The press secretary of Mr. Sunak stated that implementing unfunded tax cuts and increasing borrowing would contribute to inflation. They emphasized that Mr. Sunak took a different approach, which they believe was the right choice.

During a discussion with journalists on Wednesday, Ms. Hall defended her position on the mini-Budget. She acknowledged that things did not go as planned and accepted full responsibility.

In addition, Ms. Hall has previously expressed her support for former US President Donald Trump and equated the rioters storming the Capitol on January 6 with Remainers who refused to accept the outcome of the Brexit referendum.

When questioned about her characterization of the insurrection, Mr. Sunak’s press secretary stated that the Prime Minister would not view it in the same manner.

Tory party chairman, Greg Hands, announced the victorious candidate at the Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge on Wednesday morning, in the presence of local party members and activists.

‘Huge honor’

In her victory speech, Ms. Hall expressed her immense gratitude to the individuals who supported her. She highlighted her remarkable journey from 100/1 odds to standing before them as the mayoral candidate of London. Ms. Hall acknowledged the weight of responsibility she now carries.

As a resident of Harrow and a salon owner, Ms. Hall has been a local councilor since 2006. She has served as the leader of Harrow Council and later as the leader of the Conservative Party in the London Assembly.

Ms. Hall faces a significant challenge in attempting to sway the increasingly Left-leaning capital to the Conservative Party’s side in the upcoming London mayoral election, using the slogan “Safer with Susan.”

Following her nomination, London Labour criticized Ms. Hall, labeling her as a “hard-Right politician” who is out of touch with the city and its values.

Mr. Hands expressed his confidence in Ms. Hall’s candidacy, stating, “I think Susan will be a brilliant candidate. I’ve known Susan for a long time, and she is a formidable campaigner. Sadiq Khan genuinely fears her.”

Tory MP Nickie Allen raised concerns about the photograph of Ms. Hall used on the front page of the Evening Standard on Wednesday. On Twitter, she questioned whether there was a hint of misogyny in the image selection.

In a letter addressed to Dylan Jones, the editor of the Evening Standard, Ms. Allen expressed her disappointment with the chosen image. She deemed it contemptible and accused it of mocking the new candidate.

The photograph depicted a wide-eyed Ms. Hall with her hands raised in fists, a pose that Ms. Hall was reportedly encouraged to do despite her reluctance, according to Ms. Aiken, another Tory MP. Ms. Allen believed that the photograph was intentionally selected to portray Ms. Hall negatively.
