BMW Drives Sales Growth with Diverse Range of Options
BMW achieved record-breaking year-to-date sales between January and September, building on their impressive half-year results earlier this year. The company’s commitment to offering a wide range of choices has contributed to its success. If this momentum continues, BMW is on track to achieve its best-ever yearly results.
Double-Digit Growth Across All Segments
During the January-September period, BMW sold a total of 8,998 cars, representing a 10% year-on-year growth. MINI also saw positive growth with 582 cars sold and a growth rate of 10%. BMW Motorrad experienced significant growth as well, with 6,778 motorcycles sold and a year-on-year growth rate of 26%. These impressive numbers build on last year’s milestone growth, making the growth in 2023 even more significant.
BEVs and SAVs Propel BMW’s Sales Growth
BMW has solidified its position as the market leader in the luxury battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment. The company’s electric portfolio, which includes models like the BMW iX1, BMW i7, BMW iX, BMW i4, and MINI SE, offers unique and appealing options for customers. The increasing demand for environmentally friendly transportation, combined with the superior performance and comfort offered by BEVs, has resulted in significant growth. Compared to the same period in 2022, BMW has experienced a five-fold increase in electric vehicle sales between January and September 2023.
Among BMW’s electric vehicles, the BMW iX is the most in-demand option, while the BMW iX1 has already sold out for 2023. Currently, more than 1,000 electric BMW and MINI cars are on the roads in India. To boost sales, BMW offers a complimentary charger with every BMW and MINI BEV purchase and has expanded its charging network to include dealerships in 35 cities.
The Luxury Class range from BMW has achieved a remarkable 102% year-on-year growth. Top-selling models include the BMW 7 Series, BMW i7, BMW X7, and BMW XM. In the ultra-luxury segment, the BMW 7 Series reigns supreme, while demand for the BMW X7 has more than doubled, making it a popular choice among high-end Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) customers.
In September, BMW achieved record-breaking sales with the contribution of Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) accounting for over 50% of its sales. The new BMW X5 saw increased demand, further boosting SAV sales. The most popular MINI model was the MINI Countryman, which accounted for 63% of MINI sales. The iconic MINI Hatch and electric MINI 3-Door Cooper SE each made up 17% of sales.
BMW Motorrad Thrives with G310 Range
The BMW G310 range, including the G310R, G310RR, and G310GS models, accounted for 88% of motorcycle sales. BMW’s higher capacity bikes, which are imported as completely built-up units, achieved 36% growth. The BMW GS Adventure range has seen significant demand, with over 10,000 GS bikes sold in India to date. Sports bikes, including the BMW S 1000 RR, BMW M 1000 RR, and BMW M 1000 R, have also been well-received by customers.
Beyond the impressive vehicle lineup, BMW India Financial Services deserves credit for supporting the brand’s growth. The company offers easy and flexible finance options, including attractive EMIs, flexible term-end opportunities, assured buy-back options, and seamless upgrade options for customers looking to purchase a new BMW.
