MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace was visibly astonished by the recent display of ignorance from Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) as he persists in obstructing military promotions in the Senate to protest the Pentagon’s abortion policies.
In a statement to reporters on Tuesday, Tuberville expressed certainty that Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley would remain in his position beyond his official Oct. 1 departure date until a replacement was appointed.
“I’ll reach out to Milley and wish him good luck, but I’m not sure if he’ll leave until they confirm someone else,” said the Alabama Republican.
The reporters clarified that Milley was legally required to step down.
“He has to leave?” Tuberville questioned. “He’s out. We’ll find someone else for the job. Hopefully, it’s sorted out by then.”
Wallace was appalled by the exchange.
“What do you mean, ‘hopefully sorted out’? You are the issue,” she expressed on Tuesday.
Tuberville has been singlehandedly blocking the advancement of military nominations and promotions in the Senate for months, creating a backlog of hundreds. He claims to be doing so as a form of protest against the Defense Department’s policy of granting service members time off to seek abortion care in states where it is legal.
Tuesday’s exchange was just another example of “Tuberville’s profound and embarrassing ignorance about the U.S. military,” remarked Wallace.
