Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham speculated on Sunday about Donald Trump’s state of mind as he prepares to face trial in New York. Grisham, who served as Trump’s press secretary for nine months, appeared on MSNBC and expressed her belief that the recent case has left Trump feeling nervous and scared.
Trump has announced that he will attend court on Monday for the civil fraud trial brought against him by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The judge overseeing the case recently ruled in favor of the Attorney General, determining that Trump committed fraud over a number of years and ordering the dissolution of some of his companies as a form of punishment. As the case progresses, the 2024 front-runner could face additional penalties.
Unlike previous instances, Trump has chosen to show up in court for this trial. He did not appear when the Trump Organization and one of its top executives were convicted of tax fraud last year, nor did he attend when a jury found him liable for sexually assaulting writer E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s.
Grisham believes that Trump is particularly concerned about this case because of what he stands to lose. Trump Tower in Manhattan holds immense significance for him, being one of the most iconic buildings in the city. The potential loss of such a symbol, according to Grisham, would be a significant blow to his ego.
Grisham further expressed sympathy for any staff members currently working closely with Trump, given the tense atmosphere surrounding him. Other former insiders, including Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen, have also suggested that the stakes are incredibly high for the former president in this case. Cohen described it as Trump’s “biggest fear” and compared the potential loss of his companies to a “deathblow.”
