State Visit of Marcos: Exploring Halal Industries and Islamic Banking in Malaysia

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced on Tuesday his plans to explore the halal industry and Islamic banking during his state visit to Malaysia.

In his address to the Cabinet at Villamor Airbase in Pasay City before his departure, Marcos expressed his intention to seek avenues of mutual growth for the economies of both countries.

“To support our nation’s economic growth trajectory and achieve our target of 6.4 percent year-on-year GDP growth this year, my visit will focus on revitalizing partnerships in agriculture and food security, digital economy, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. Additionally, I aim to explore new areas of cooperation, particularly in the halal industry and Islamic banking,” Marcos stated in his speech.

Marcos emphasized the potential for the halal industry to become a trillion-dollar market in the global arena.

“Malaysia is a leader in this sector, and my visit aims to establish synergies with Malaysia to enable the Philippines to capture a share of this market,” the President explained.

During his state visit, Marcos is scheduled to have meetings with Malaysian King Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, as well as business leaders from Malaysia.

Furthermore, Marcos plans to meet with the Filipino community in Malaysia.

“Malaysia is home to a thriving Filipino diaspora, many of whom have left their families behind to work and live in Malaysia. I will personally meet with our hardworking kababayans in Malaysia to demonstrate the government’s care and protection and to reassure them that we are constantly working to ensure their safety and well-being,” Marcos affirmed.
