State-approved events in Albany area to sell marijuana products

Local growers and dispensaries will be showcasing and selling their products at two different locations in upstate New York. The first location is Old Saratoga Mercantile in Schuylerville, which is partnering with Misty Bleu Farm in Granville, Washington County. The sale of cannabis products will begin next week. Additionally, the city of Saratoga Springs is also collaborating with local growers and will start their own initiative on September 3rd in the High Rock Avenue parking lot.

This state initiative allows licensed growers and processors to showcase and sell their products legally. Christina Myers, the owner of Old Saratoga Mercantile, expressed her excitement about providing an outlet for farmers who have not had the opportunity to sell their products.

Old Saratoga Mercantile was recently approved by the state as a venue for the event. They will be hosting Legacy Dispensers, an Albany-based delivery-only dispensary, as well as cannabis farms from Washington, Saratoga, and Rensselaer counties. The products will be available for purchase from noon to 8 p.m. from Wednesday through Saturday in the farm’s “potting shed.”

In addition to the sales event, the farm has been organizing an educational series on cannabis in collaboration with Legacy Dispensers and local growers. This series takes place on Thursday nights throughout the month.

Matthew Robinson, the CEO and founder of Legacy Dispensers, is eager to promote his company and the local farmers to the public. Legacy Dispensers has already been a part of the “Cannabis Growers Showcase” in New Paltz, and they will also be participating in the upcoming events in Granville and Columbia County.

The sales event in Saratoga Springs will feature growers Ten-Ten Craft Cannabis and Upstate Canna in the High Rock Avenue parking lot from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday and Tuesday. The Granville showcase will take place at 6 Main St. from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and noon to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Chris Kostyun of Misty Bleu Farm expressed his enthusiasm for getting legally-grown and lab-tested products into the market, emphasizing the importance of supporting local businesses on Main Street.

The Cannabis Control Board recently voted to allow stakeholders in the marijuana industry to sell their stockpiled crops at various venues, including fairs, festivals, concerts, and community events. While many of these sale events will continue throughout the year, some are limited, such as the ones planned for the New York State Fair and the Hoosick Falls Summer Concert Series.

This emergency measure was implemented to provide financial relief to cultivators, processors, and retail license holders who have faced delays and challenges due to the slow rollout of marijuana legalization in the state. The Times Union reported earlier this year that farmers with conditional licenses have been unable to sell the crops they grew last year, and retail license holders have been unable to open stores due to bureaucratic obstacles. The proliferation of illicit marijuana shops has also hindered the retail rollout.

To combat these issues, new regulations have been put in place to strengthen enforcement efforts against unlicensed shops. The Office of Cannabis Management now has the authority to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to seize illegal products, issue fines, and shut down non-compliant shops.

In conclusion, these upcoming sales events provide an opportunity for local growers and dispensaries to showcase and sell their products legally, while also supporting the financial health of the industry and promoting enforcement against illicit shops.
