Startling Allegations: Lawsuit Dismissed as Manager Fishes for Inappropriate Relationships

A former driver for a nonprofit has voluntarily dismissed his lawsuit against his ex-employer, in which he claimed he was wrongfully terminated in 2021. The driver alleged that his manager belittled his sons and made inappropriate requests regarding her daughter.

The lawsuit, filed by DaJuan Fowler against CRCD Enterprises and the Coalition for Responsible Community Development in Los Angeles Superior Court, included claims of harassment, retaliation, discrimination, breach of contract, and violations of various labor codes.

Last Thursday, Fowler filed court papers requesting the dismissal of his case “with prejudice,” signaling that it cannot be refiled. It is unclear from the court documents if a settlement was reached or if Fowler decided to drop the case for other reasons.

In response, an attorney representing CRCD denied any liability on behalf of the organization and asserted that Fowler was terminated for valid reasons.

According to CRCD’s website, the organization has been dedicated to inspiring, educating, and empowering disadvantaged youth and residents of South L.A. since its establishment in 2005.

Fowler initially joined CRCD as a beautification field coordinator in January 2021 and was later promoted to a bulky item driver. In June of the same year, his manager allegedly made flirtatious remarks, showed Fowler photos of her daughter, and insisted that he contact and date the daughter.

“Shocked and in disbelief, Mr. Fowler immediately declined the requests,” stated the lawsuit filed on January 11.

However, the manager persisted, presenting additional images of her daughter and repeatedly asking Fowler to contact her. The lawsuit alleged that the manager even went as far as to request a sexual relationship between Fowler and her daughter.

“Nevertheless, Mr. Fowler respectfully declined and walked away each time she asked,” the lawsuit explained.

At one point, the manager’s tone shifted from flirtation to anger, and she walked away in frustration after Fowler indicated he did not want to talk to her daughter, according to the lawsuit.

Several weeks later, when Fowler brought his young sons to work for a youth program, the manager commented that they looked like gang members, causing the boys to become upset and cry.

“Mr. Fowler’s boys were deeply affected by the manager’s senseless and degrading remarks, causing significant emotional distress,” stated the lawsuit.

Furthermore, the suit alleged that the manager made obscene remarks about Fowler’s sons during a construction class. Despite Fowler’s complaints to upper management, no action was taken to address the manager’s conduct.

The suit also claimed that Fowler’s previously unblemished work performance suddenly became an issue, with lower ratings and requests for improvement. He was subsequently suspended in October 2021, allegedly in retaliation for his complaints about the manager.

Fowler was reinstated and received a promotion and raise from the CEO of CRCD. However, he was suspended again in December 2021 and ultimately terminated for alleged failure to fulfill his job duties.

The lawsuit stated that Fowler suffered significant financial losses and endured severe emotional distress as a result of his termination.
