Spider-Man Star Tom Holland Confesses Contemplations of Quitting Role

  • According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Holland has had discussions with producers about the possibility of a “Spider-Man 4.”
  • However, the actor expressed some hesitation about reprising his role, admitting that he feels “a little apprehensive.”
  • Holland also mentioned that a part of him wants to “walk away” and pass on the responsibility to someone else.

During an interview, Tom Holland revealed his contemplation of leaving the “Spider-Man” franchise behind.

While there is no confirmed release date for a fourth installment, Holland already had a meeting with Amy Pascal, the producer of “Spider-Man,” Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, and Rachel O’Connor, the executive producer, to discuss the next steps for the character.

“It’s a collaborative process,” Holland said. “In the initial meetings, we explored the reasons behind doing another film, and I believe we have found a compelling purpose. I am incredibly satisfied with the creative direction we are heading.”

However, Holland, who has played the iconic hero since “Captain America: Civil War” in 2016, expressed his apprehension about continuing with the franchise beyond the original trilogy of movies, which includes “Homecoming,” “Far From Home,” and “No Way Home.”

“There seems to be a stigma surrounding the fourth film in any franchise,” Holland shared. “I feel like we hit a grand slam with our first trilogy, and a part of me wants to leave the stage on a high note and hand over the mantle to the next fortunate individual who will bring this character to life.”

If a fourth “Spider-Man” movie materializes, Holland will become the first actor to lead four films as the web-slinging hero, as Tobey Maguire’s fourth movie was canceled during development.

In Holland’s third movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” both Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprised their Spider-Man roles, giving closure to their respective iterations of the character that were cut short before their planned films could be released.

In an interview during his cover shoot for The Hollywood Reporter, Holland also proudly mentioned that he successfully kept a major secret about “No Way Home,” unlike his castmates who have unintentionally leaked Marvel spoilers in the past.

“When it came to the third movie, I excelled at keeping secrets,” Holland said. “Andrew got caught ordering food from Deliveroo, Tobey got caught somehow. Alfred Molina was telling people in the supermarket that he was part of the new ‘Spider-Man’ show. Willem Dafoe was photographed at the airport. So, I am the one who actually managed to keep the secrets. Let’s put a stop to that myth.”
