Workers had a hilariously absurd situation on their hands when they had to tarmac around a car whose forgetful driver failed to move it, despite clear signs warning of resurfacing.
This incident occurred on Queen Street in Scarborough, North Yorks., where highway maintenance men were resurfacing the road on Thursday (5/10). While the rest of the road was getting a fresh layer of tarmac, these workers decided to carry on with their task, making sure to leave the silver Vauxhall Corsa hatchback untouched.
Amusing pictures captured the 2008 car parked right across from a noticeable yellow sign that explicitly stated, “Surfacing works. No parking between 6pm and 6am.”
Unfortunately for the driver, their decision to ignore this warning resulted in an embarrassing outcome. The new black tarmac gracefully stops right at the sign, only to continue about a yard beyond the car’s front bumper.
The Corsa found itself sitting on a piece of old road, clearly distinguishable due to its relatively lighter hue compared to the rest of the street.
A local resident named Jordan Chambers, aged 35, shared his thoughts on the matter, highlighting the presence of warning signs that had been up for quite some time.
“Someone obviously failed to receive the memo, or maybe they parked with their eyes shut and neglected to notice the sign or the absence of other parked cars on the road,” Chambers remarked.
He further added, “The workmen arrived, made some disapproving noises, but then got on with their job. They even managed to thread the safety tape around the car’s wing mirror. I can’t wait to witness the driver’s reaction when they finally realize what a foolish mistake they’ve made.”
After Michael Curtis, a local resident aged 36, shared pictures of the car on the popular Scarborough Moan Facebook page, the driver was mercilessly ridiculed.
One user humorously remarked, “There’s always that one person! Luckily, the car didn’t get towed.”
However, luck might not be on the driver’s side. In one of Michael’s pictures, a traffic warden can be seen standing next to the stranded vehicle.
