Michel Zoghzoghi’s photo titled “A Life-Changing Event” emerged as the winner in the recent 2023 Comedy Pet Photography Awards. The photo showcases one of his kittens in a poised position, getting ready to pounce on the other.

After the announcement of the finalists in July, a panel of judges consisting of photographers, comedians, and veterinarians assessed the entries and selected the winning image. Zoghzoghi, known for his work as a wildlife photographer based in Lebanon, secured the top prize in both the cat category and the overall competition with his captivating photo titled “A Life-Changing Event.”

While Zoghzoghi usually focuses on capturing larger wild cats like lions, jaguars, and cheetahs, he portrayed his award-winning kittens Max and Alex as a “lethally cute duo” in this particular image. Surprisingly, the excitement and surprises Zoghzoghi encountered while photographing these two characters surpassed those of his most adventurous wildlife photography endeavors. The winning photo was taken at Zoghzoghi’s home in Lebanon.

In 2020, Zoghzoghi fostered Max and Alex for several months, despite the initial objections from his two resident cats, Gomez and Huguette. Eventually, the kittens found a permanent home with a family who came across the adorable photos he had shared on social media.

Zoghzoghi expressed uncertainty regarding whether Max and Alex were aware of their newfound fame, as they had relocated abroad with their new family. However, he mentioned that the last time he saw them, they appeared to be very happy.

As the winner of the 2023 contest, Zoghzoghi received a cash prize of £500 (approximately $636), a camera bag from ThinkTank, and a trophy.

In a statement released by the competition, Zoghzoghi, a wildlife photographer by profession, admitted that he had never considered submitting photos to a pet competition until he discovered Comedy Pets. He described the competition as witty, fun, and highlighted the hilarity captured in the photos. Zoghzoghi expressed immense happiness and pride in winning the contest, acknowledging the outstanding work of the other finalists that often brought him to tears of laughter. He emphasized the importance of celebrating pets as an integral part of our families.
