Six individuals apprehended in relation to the homicide cases at the ‘Scenic Viewpoint’

Pasadena police are currently conducting an investigation into a double homicide in Rancho Palos Verdes on Monday, as well as another killing on Saturday. Five men and one woman have been arrested in connection with these crimes, although their identities have not been released due to the ongoing investigation. Pasadena police Lt. Keith Gomez stated during a news conference on Wednesday that the suspects are part of a Los Angeles criminal street gang that specializes in robbing people at scenic turnouts. He noted that the victims were often distracted when the attacks took place.

Gomez explained that the arrests primarily pertain to three homicides: the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Jessie Munoz on Saturday, who was driving a vehicle that crashed on Angeles Crest Highway near mile marker 28.36. Munoz died at the scene, and investigators believe this was a robbery attempt. Additionally, Gomez revealed that this killing is also linked to the deaths of a man and a woman found dead in a parked Subaru sedan in Rancho Palos Verdes early Monday.

On Monday at 6:50 a.m., deputies discovered the bodies of Jorge Ramos, 36, and Taylor Raven Whittaker, 26, with multiple gunshot wounds on Palos Verdes Drive. The vehicle had visible bullet holes. Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit coordinated the arrests, which involved various law enforcement units and took place at different locations throughout Los Angeles County.

During the operation, at 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, detectives spotted a vehicle connected to the Munoz murder on Woodman Street in Panorama City. They conducted a stop and apprehended five male suspects. Multiple semi-automatic firearms were found inside the vehicle. Simultaneously, a female suspect was arrested on West 85th Street in Los Angeles, and search warrants were executed at multiple locations.

Gomez did not provide specific details regarding the connection between the two cases, as the sheriff’s department investigation is still ongoing. However, he repeatedly emphasized that investigators believe the shootings are related.
