Shocking London Renter Dismay as Flats are Ordered to be Demolished: Protecting Your Home

Renters at a newly developed Thameside apartment complex were shocked after the Royal Borough of Greenwich ordered the demolition of 204 homes due to planning breaches. The Mast Quay Phase II development in Woolwich, which opened last year, has been found to have 26 major deviations from the original planning consent. The news was announced by the local authority, leaving many residents to learn about it from journalists. The council has stated that renters may need to find alternative accommodation. Greenwich council leader, Anthony Okereke, accused the developers, Comer Homes Group, of prioritizing profits over planning regulations. The 23-storey complex has been deemed a “mutant development that is a blight on the landscape.” The developer, however, plans to appeal the decision and claims that the council’s statements are inaccurate and misrepresent their actions. Demolition and rebuilding could cost over £160m.
