Shocking Incident Unveiled: Former Substitute Teacher Faces Arrest at Hingham Middle School

In a shocking incident, a substitute teacher was arrested at Hingham Middle School last week, according to exclusive information obtained by 25 Investigates.

Charlotte Cody, 55, from Scituate, was taken into custody without any trouble on Friday, Oct. 27, around 10 a.m., as confirmed by a spokesperson from the Hingham Police.

The arrest came as a result of a warrant filed in the state’s warrant management system, related to a probation violation out of Hingham District Court. Unfortunately, no further details about the case are currently available, although 25 Investigates has requested a copy of the arrest report.

As part of their investigation, 25 Investigates reached out to Hingham Superintendent of Schools Margaret Adams, Ed.D., inquiring about whether a criminal background check was conducted prior to Cody’s hiring and when parents were first notified about the incident.

Although the details of the matter were suggested to be unrelated to the Hingham community, the school district takes student and staff safety seriously and adhered to all regular employment procedures and processes, in accordance with Massachusetts Law, which requires criminal background checks (CORI) for all school employees, past and present.

While it was confirmed that no students witnessed the arrest, Dr. Adams did send an email to the school community informing them about the incident.

According to court documents from September, it was revealed that Cody was already in court over multiple trespassing incidents involving Scituate High School and her daughter. In addition, recently obtained court documents showed that Cody faced animal cruelty charges following the discovery of several dogs living in unsanitary conditions at her residence on Kent Street in Scituate.

The dogs, which were removed from small kennels in the house and taken to the Scituate Animal Shelter, were found emaciated, with foul odors, stained fur, and overgrown nails that hindered their movement.

Moreover, Cody’s history revealed that she had been previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder and paranoid schizophrenia, pointing to her long-standing mental health issues.

The investigation into this matter is still ongoing.

Ted Daniel, a reporter from 25 Investigates, took to Twitter to share updates on the situation. According to his tweets, Cody was ordered by the court to wear a GPS monitoring device. However, she failed to schedule a mental health evaluation in connection with the trespassing and attempted crime case in Scituate.

The tweet also mentioned an additional animal cruelty case against Cody, as per court documents.

This is a developing story and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
