Shavana Laput Aims to be Instrumental in La Salle’s UAAP Title Defense

Shevana Laput, along with her La Salle teammates, celebrated their victory in the Shakey’s Super League finals game against Adamson. It seemed like La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo was not only talking about their rivalry with Adamson but also sending a message to the other teams in the UAAP. Orcullo stated, “We have to show that we are the defending UAAP champions and prove that we won’t just give up the championship.”

Laput, however, was not concerned with who Orcullo was impressing. She took his words to heart and performed exceptionally well, scoring 18 points and helping La Salle secure a rubber match for the crown. After the game, Laput expressed her desire to improve even further and be a more productive player for the Lady Spikers’ title defense in the upcoming UAAP season.

Laput’s outstanding performance in Game 2 rejuvenated La Salle’s spirits after a frustrating Game 1 defeat. It also showcased her ability to be a key player in La Salle’s title defense next season. She acknowledged that she still had room for improvement, particularly in her defense. Laput emphasized that she would work on strengthening her defensive skills and refining her tipping technique.

To enhance her defensive game, Laput could review Game 2 and observe how La Salle effectively limited Adamson star Lucille Almonte to only six points, compared to her explosive performance of 24 points in Game 1. Laput could also consult with her teammate and middle blocker Amie Provido, who played a crucial role in the Game 2 victory with 13 points. Laput hopes to incorporate these defensive strategies and complement her scoring abilities in the do-or-die match against Adamson for the championship title.

Laput believes that a winner’s and positive mindset, combined with giving their all and playing with energy and confidence, will be crucial in Game 3. If the Lady Spikers succeed, Laput aims to carry over these traits to the upcoming UAAP season. Excited about the team’s prospects, Laput looks forward to better connections with her teammates and playing alongside new additions, including a new captain and setter.
