Shannon Sharpe Announces Imminent Return to Morning TV After Departure from ‘Undisputed’

Shannon Sharpe, the accomplished football analyst and three-time Super Bowl champion, has hinted at a comeback to television shortly after his final appearance on ‘Undisputed’ alongside his former partner, Skip Bayless. In an Instagram post, Sharpe shared pictures of himself in Los Angeles, sporting a stylish grey tracksuit paired with eye-catching pink Nike sneakers and a black and gold crossbody bag. He expressed his enjoyment of morning workouts, late breakfasts, and a break from wearing suits, but assured his followers that he will soon be back on TV in the mornings.

Sharpe also dropped hints that he had been meeting with someone to discuss his future and his podcast, ‘Club ShayShay,’ using hashtags such as ‘#brunch,’ ‘#talkshow,’ and ‘#podcasting.’ Last Tuesday, Sharpe bid farewell to Bayless and the Fox Sports crew on ‘Undisputed,’ marking the end of his seven-year tenure as co-host on the show.

Sharpe’s departure followed a series of tense disagreements with Bayless, most notably regarding the NFL’s handling of Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest in January. Bayless tweeted about the game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals, questioning the NFL’s decision not to postpone it despite concerns about Hamlin’s health. Sharpe was absent from ‘Undisputed’ the next day and expressed frustration upon his return when Bayless interrupted him while he explained his position.

Despite Bayless apologizing for the tweet without deleting it, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith offered Sharpe a spot on his talk show, ‘First Take,’ which features a rotating panel of former pro athletes-turned-analysts. However, it remains unclear if Sharpe’s meeting in Los Angeles was with anyone from ESPN.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Sharpe and Smith had agreed to appear on each other’s shows in the coming months following Sharpe’s buyout agreement with Fox Sports. Although Sharpe has not explicitly discussed the reasons for his departure from ‘Undisputed,’ he liked a tweet prior to his last appearance on the show that hinted at issues between him and Bayless. The New York Post reported that “people close to Sharpe” said he wanted more input in selecting topics for the talk show.

Having achieved immense success as one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history, winning two Super Bowls with the Broncos and one with the Baltimore Ravens, Sharpe’s return to television is highly anticipated.
