Former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) suggests that President Joe Biden is being underestimated. She also expressed alarm over the number of poll respondents openly stating their intention to vote for Donald Trump.
During “Morning Joe” on Monday, the MSNBC political analyst shared her thoughts on a new NBC News poll, where former President Trump leads President Joe Biden by 2% in a hypothetical matchup.
Host Joe Scarborough dismissed the result and criticized Democrats for catastrophizing, citing the unreliability of polls in 2020.
McCaskill emphasized that Biden is accustomed to being underestimated, while urging his campaign to improve messaging to various voter groups on pressing social and political issues.
Despite this, she expressed concern over the fact that there are still supporters of Trump, describing him as a dangerous and unacceptable individual. She emphasized the need to acknowledge this unsettling reality.
Recent legal developments have also brought attention to Trump’s controversial past, including multiple indictments and civil cases confirming allegations of fraud and sexual assault.
Despite these controversies, Trump remains the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination and leads Biden in recent swing state polls.
NBC News’ latest poll, released Sunday, found Biden trailing Trump for the first time, receiving 44% and 46% of support respectively, attributing the shift to a decline in Biden’s support.
