The search for a missing 78-year-old man in the California Aqueduct in Lancaster will resume at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. The Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Services Detail will be leading the search, which will involve approximately two dozen divers using sonar. The water flow in the aqueduct will be controlled to aid in the search for Grigor Khacheryan.
On Monday, authorities discovered the body of Khacheryan’s 86-year-old brother, Minas Khacheryan, in the aqueduct. The brothers were last seen fishing in the aqueduct on Friday. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies and personnel from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner responded to the report of the body’s discovery under a bridge at around 4 p.m. on Monday.
The body has been positively identified and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of Minas Khacheryan’s death. Foul play is not suspected in this case.
The search for the brothers initially began on Saturday and was suspended later that afternoon. Sergeant Michael Rodriguez of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau/Missing Persons Unit provided this information.
