Producers on “The View” were not pleased when one of their cohosts used a slang term for masturbation to describe former President Donald Trump. Sara Haines learned this firsthand during Wednesday’s show when she referred to Trump as “a jerk-off” and was immediately rebuked by Whoopi Goldberg and a producer.
Haines made the vulgar comment during a discussion about a limited gag order issued by Judge Arther Engoron after Trump made disparaging comments about one of his law clerks and shared her photo online. Prior to Haines’ slip of the tongue, Goldberg expressed her shock at Trump’s ability to get away with threatening comments that another defendant would never be allowed to say.
Meanwhile, cohost Sunny Hostin predicted that special counsel Jack Smith’s requested gag orders would likely be approved but cautioned, “I don’t know what that man is going to do if he can’t talk.”
Haines pointed out that Trump has displayed similar behavior for years and mentioned that this was one of the reasons why “Back To The Future” screenwriter Bob Gale based the character Biff Tannen on him. “So think about what he was like in 1983 when he was a jerk-off doing what he does,” Haines explained. “Nothing’s changed!”
The audience chuckled at Haines’ blunt insult, prompting her to ask, “Can I not say that?” Goldberg and fellow panelist Joy Behar confirmed that the word was not allowed on the show, which was confirmed by an off-screen producer who added, “It was 1985, but you can’t say that.”
“Okay, but still. He was a complete jerk,” Haines remarked, only to be reminded by Hostin that she couldn’t use that word either.
“Jerk?” Haines pondered. “I have no words left! I feel like Donald Trump!”
Behar then jokingly suggested that Haines needed to be gagged and playfully attempted to cover her mouth.
