A 29-year-old man, who was previously convicted of attempted murder when he was 15, has been charged with a fatal shooting outside a Santa Ana liquor store on Sunday, according to official court records.
Manuel Chairezcampos Jr., now facing charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, is also subject to sentencing enhancements due to the discharge of a firearm causing death and the commission of an offense while out on bail for another alleged crime, as per court records.
According to court records, Chairezcampos had previously pleaded guilty to attempted murder in June 2010 and accepted a sentencing enhancement for gang activity related to a shooting incident that occurred on October 24, 2008.
Chairezcampos had been released on bail after being arrested for driving without a valid license on June 14, and subsequently charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The accusation against Chairezcampos involves the killing of 29-year-old Jorge Velasquez from Santa Ana, who was fatally shot in a parking lot outside a liquor store located at 2734 N. Bristol St., confirmed Santa Ana police Officer Natalie Garcia, spokesperson for the department.
During his arraignment in custody at the jail courtroom in Santa Ana, Chairezcampos did not enter a plea. His next scheduled arraignment is set for September 1 at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.
