New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas was taken into custody on charges of simple battery and criminal mischief around 7 p.m. Friday, as reported by Kenner police.
Thomas cooperated with authorities and was booked without incident. He was released from custody around 10 p.m., according to the police.
The arrest stemmed from an altercation with a construction worker at a house being built in Thomas’ neighborhood. The worker claimed Thomas confronted him about parking in front of his house and made verbal threats.
According to the worker, Thomas became agitated when he started recording the incident and allegedly threw a brick at his windshield, causing minimal damage. The worker also stated that Thomas pushed him, knocked the phone out of his hands, and expressed his desire not to be recorded.
The worker told local NBC affiliate WDSU that the conflict had been brewing for weeks, with Thomas repeatedly asking the construction workers not to park in front of his house and threatening to damage their vehicles if they did not comply.
The charges will be handled in Kenner’s Mayor’s Court, which handles traffic, misdemeanor, and code enforcement violations within the city of Kenner.
The Saints confirmed that they were aware of the incident and are currently gathering information.
Thomas’ arrest marks the second incident involving a Saints player in Kenner within the past month, following wide receiver Chris Olave’s arrest on suspicion of reckless operation of a motor vehicle on Oct. 23.
