Exposure to these particles in the UK has been linked to premature deaths. Sales of domestic wood-burning stoves have increased significantly in recent years, surpassing the pollution caused by road traffic. Khan withdrew his endorsement after the issue was raised by the Liberal Democrats. The Stove Industry Alliance has removed the recommendation from its website.
