Rory McIlroy Considers Retirement If LIV Becomes the Last Remaining Golf Course

Rumors of a shocking agreement emerged six weeks ago, but Rory McIlroy has been silent, letting his performance on the course do the talking. Yesterday, he displayed his skills once again, sinking 160 feet of putts in a remarkable six-under-par 64 at the Genesis Scottish Open. However, McIlroy couldn’t resist taking a shot at LIV Golf, expressing his disdain for the league, stating that he would retire if it were the last place to play golf on Earth.

The proposed framework deal involving McIlroy and Tiger Woods taking ownership of LIV Golf franchises was brought up during US Senate sub-committee hearings in Washington DC. However, McIlroy showed apathy towards the discussions, due to his close proximity to the matter and the uncertainty surrounding the future of the sport.

While fellow players such as Xander Schauffele and Jordan Spieth have criticized PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, McIlroy understood the existential crisis facing the Tour. He acknowledged that he was more informed about the situation than others, stating that the PGA Tour was negotiating for its survival and trying to do what was best for the players.

McIlroy prefers to focus on his game and hopes to maintain a similar schedule to what he has played throughout his career. As long as he gets to play the game he loves, he will be happy.

In other golf news, Pádraig Harrington shot a solid three-under 67, and Tom McKibbin had a mixed day, finishing with a level par 70. Meanwhile, Shane Lowry struggled, hitting only three fairways and shooting a 73. Another setback came from Séamus Power, who had to withdraw due to a hip injury, casting doubt on his Ryder Cup campaign and his participation in The Open next week.

On the LPGA Tour, Lauren Walsh had a disappointing finish, dropping three shots in her last five holes in her professional debut. Despite the setback, Walsh remains determined to improve and make her mark in the Dana Open in Ohio.

Additionally, in the Euram Bank Open in Austria, Conor Purcell and Paul Murphy had solid rounds, finishing tied for 27th after shooting two-under 68s.

Make sure to catch the Scottish Open live on Sky Sports Golf at 8.0am.
