Sometimes, desires do come true. In an exciting announcement, the Rolling Stones revealed that they will be releasing their first album of new music in almost two decades. This marks the beginning of a “new era” for the legendary band.
While the band has released various live and remastered albums in recent years, “Hackney Diamonds” will be their first album consisting of fresh music since their 2005 release, “A Bigger Bang,” as reported by the Associated Press.
Although few details about the new music have been revealed, the band announced on Instagram that they would share more information during a live YouTube broadcast with “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. ET.
“Hackney Diamonds may be the heart of the album, but this is a global moment we want to share with fans worldwide via YouTube,” stated the band, as reported by AP.
The announcement came shortly after Mick Jagger, the 80-year-old frontman of the Stones, teased that something new was on the horizon. He shared two clips depicting ice and diamonds forming the iconic Stones logo – a mouth and tongue – with a caption leading people to hackneydiamonds.com. This website redirects visitors to a countdown on the band’s official site.
In addition, the band posted photos of their logo alongside famous landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, and placed an advertisement in London’s local newspaper, the Hackney Gazette, for a fictional glass repair store called “Hackney Diamonds Glass Repair.” The advertisement featured the band’s logo instead of a dot above the “i” in “diamonds” and claimed the company was established in 1962, the same year the band was formed.
The advertisement generated significant interest, prompting the creation of additional “limited copies” of the August 23 issue featuring the ad. Universal Music Group purchased the ad and used typeface similar to that of the band’s 1978 album, “Some Girls.”
Simon Murfitt, senior editor of the Hackney Gazette, shared, “I have already received numerous emails requesting back copies, and undoubtedly, the papers will become collector’s items for music fans.”
