Roller Coaster Beam Shutdown Due to Significant Crack

A major incident occurred at an amusement park located in Charlotte, N.C., where a roller coaster had to be shut down due to a significant crack found in one of its pillars. The Carowinds amusement park took immediate action and closed the coaster, known as Fury 325, after noticing a crack at the top of a steel support pillar. To ensure safety, the ride will remain closed while repairs are carried out, as confirmed by Courtney McGarry Weber, a park spokesperson.

Visitors at the park, including Jeremy Wagner and his family, witnessed the alarming situation. Mr. Wagner managed to capture footage of the pillar with the crack, which showed a momentary separation as a coaster car passed by on the track. He expressed his anxiety while recording the footage, knowing the potential catastrophic consequences of a collapse. Mr. Wagner had purchased season passes for his children, and his 14-year-old daughter had already enjoyed the ride eight times that day.

The coaster in question, Fury 325, stands at a height of 325 feet and is one of the main attractions at Carowinds. It can accommodate numerous riders and reaches speeds of up to 95 miles per hour during its adrenaline-pumping, three-minute ride, as mentioned on the park’s website.

Carowinds proudly presents Fury 325 as the “longest giga coaster in North America,” having opened to the public in March 2015. Giga coasters are defined as roller coasters with drops ranging from 300 to 399 feet. Mr. Wagner promptly handed over his footage to park officials, although he was not aware of the ride’s closure until after he had returned home. He expressed gratitude towards the park for prioritizing the public’s safety, even though Fury 325 is their star attraction.

Despite this incident, the remaining sections of Carowinds, which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, remained open to the public on both Saturday and Sunday, as confirmed on the park’s website.
