Robert De Niro pays respects at grandson Leandro’s funeral in New York City

Robert De Niro, the acclaimed actor, attended the funeral of his 19-year-old grandson, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, who tragically passed away in New York City. The funeral service took place at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and De Niro was accompanied by his girlfriend Tiffany Chen and their 3-month-old daughter Gia. Leandro was the son of De Niro’s eldest child, Drena De Niro, and graffiti artist Carlos Rodriguez. Other notable attendees included Christopher Walken, Harvey Keitel, and Michael Imperioli, all longtime friends and former co-stars of De Niro.

Prior to the funeral, a wake was held at the chapel, which has provided funeral services for numerous notable personalities in the past. Leandro’s death was announced by his mother, Drena, in a heartfelt tribute shared on Instagram. She expressed her deep love for her son and how his presence brought joy and meaning to her life. She mourned his loss and wished she could be with him. Drena’s ex-wife, Diahnne Abbott, was also present at the wake, as she had adopted Drena during her marriage to De Niro.

In response to the devastating loss, De Niro released a statement expressing his distress over the passing of his beloved grandson and thanking everyone for their condolences. He requested privacy during this time of grieving. Drena also issued a statement expressing her immeasurable shock and sadness over the loss of her son and asking for privacy to process her grief.

The circumstances surrounding Leandro’s death are still under investigation. According to a spokesperson, an 18-year-old male was found unconscious and unresponsive and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office. Drena revealed on Instagram that her son had been given drugs laced with fentanyl.

At this time, representatives for De Niro have declined to comment further on the matter. The investigation into Leandro’s death is ongoing, and it remains uncertain if it is being treated as an overdose or if there are any suspects involved.
