Rob Thomson of the Phillies gets ejected for disputing the pitch-clock problem.

The Philadelphia Phillies suffered a 6-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, with manager Rob Thomson being ejected in the sixth inning for disputing a pitch clock-related call made by plate umpire Roberto Ortiz. Thomson and his team were of the opinion that Ortiz refused to reset the pitch clock after Aaron Nola requested a new baseball. However, the umpires strongly felt that Nola was trying to bypass pitch clock regulations that were put in place prior to the start of the season, and hence, refused to honor Nola’s request. There is a rule that states that pitchers must start their delivery before the clock expires. The penalty is an automatic ball if a pitcher fails to throw a pitch in the allotted time. Pitchers have 15 seconds to deliver a pitch with nobody on and 20 seconds if there is a baserunner. Thomson got into a heated argument with Ortiz and Miller and was subsequently ejected. Phillies fans showed their support for Thomson as he walked off the field despite the loss.
