However, these devices are limited by Bluetooth’s capabilities. Qualcomm aims to overcome these limitations with its next-generation Snapdragon Sound platform, which integrates Wi-Fi alongside Bluetooth to unleash the full potential of wireless audio.

Qualcomm has announced the S7 and S7 Pro platforms, which will be included in future headphones, earbuds, and speakers from various third-party manufacturers. Brands such as Audio-Technica, Bose, Jabra, and LG have already partnered with Qualcomm for Snapdragon Sound integration. These platforms offer significant improvements in processing power, memory, AI capabilities, and more. The active noise cancellation (ANC) of the S7 and S7 Pro is more powerful and intelligent, dynamically allowing important external sounds while maintaining a rich audio experience.

One of the exciting advancements with the S7 Pro is the integration of micro-power Wi-Fi support. This feature enables 192kHz lossless audio delivery over Wi-Fi without sacrificing battery life on earbuds. Qualcomm’s Expanded Personal Area Network (XPAN) technology makes this possible. With XPAN, Qualcomm can deliver lossless audio at 24-bit 96kHz through Wi-Fi, which Bluetooth currently cannot support.

During the conventional pairing process, the phone will recognize that both ends support XPAN and automatically exchange Wi-Fi credentials. However, it’s important to mention that Apple devices are not currently compatible with Snapdragon Sound. Apple prefers to focus on its own cross-device ecosystem and has developed its technology for wireless, lossless audio. Qualcomm is open to collaboration with Apple in the future if they choose to join forces.
