USC President Carol Folt is set to make a significant announcement regarding USC Athletics, revealing the new athletic director. Early reports suggest that Jennifer Cohen, the AD at the University of Washington, will be taking on the role.
Both ESPN and Yahoo Sports have already reported that Cohen has accepted the position at USC. Folt has scheduled a news conference at 1 p.m. today to officially announce the news.
Cohen has been leading the athletics program at UW since 2016. She recently oversaw the university’s decision, similar to USC’s, to leave the Pac-12 Conference and join the Big Ten Conference in 2024. UCLA and the University of Oregon will also be making this transition.
When Cohen was hired, she became one of the few women in an athletic director role at a Power 5 school.
Cohen will be replacing Mike Bohn, who unexpectedly resigned as USC’s athletic director in May 2019. There were reports of an internal investigation into his behavior while leading the athletics program.
At the time, Folt released a statement saying, “Over the past four years, USC Athletics has become a dominant force in the nation. As we strive for excellence, it is crucial to have the right leadership in place to achieve our goals.
“In line with this commitment and our move to the Big Ten, we conducted a comprehensive review of the athletics department, including its operations, culture, and strategy. With a strong foundation already established, now is the time for a new direction guided by our values and the expertise needed to fulfill our vision for Trojan athletics.”
