Report: Apple plans to launch new iPhone 15 around September 22nd

Apple is reportedly targeting a mid-September release date for its highly-anticipated iPhone 15 model. This comes at a crucial time for the tech giant, as it grapples with a rare sales slump. According to Bloomberg, the iPhone 15 is expected to go on sale around September 22, following an Apple launch event planned for either September 12 or 13. In support of this, 9to5 Mac reported that mobile carriers have been advising employees not to take days off on September 13 due to a major smartphone announcement.

Apple has historically held its iPhone events around this time, and a September 22 release would ensure availability throughout the company’s important holiday sales quarter, beginning on October 1. Approximately one week of sales will contribute to Apple’s fourth-quarter earnings. We have reached out to Apple for comment and will update accordingly.

The sales performance of iPhones remains a crucial factor for Apple’s revenue and is closely watched by investors on Wall Street. Unfortunately, weak iPhone sales in the third quarter led to Apple losing its status as the world’s only $3 trillion company. The company’s third-quarter revenue experienced a 1.4% drop to $81.8 billion, marking the third consecutive quarter of declining sales. Apple’s CFO, Luca Maestri, suggested that the company expects similar sales performance in the fourth quarter, which would fall short of analysts’ expectations of $90.19 billion in sales. As a result, Apple shares dipped nearly 2% to $178.76, with a market cap of approximately $2.81 trillion.

The iPhone 15 may face some challenges when it comes to consumer reception. During the recent earnings call, Maestri acknowledged the decline in sales, attributing it to the overall decline in the US smartphone market over the past few quarters. In addition, The Information reported last month that Apple might encounter shortages of its high-end iPhone Pro and Pro Max models in September due to manufacturing issues faced by its partners. The manufacturing process for the larger screen displays on these devices has reportedly presented challenges for suppliers.

Despite these potential obstacles, Apple enthusiasts eagerly await the release of the iPhone 15, which is poised to be a significant revenue driver for the company.
