Carrie Fisher’s final film, “Wonderwell,” is set to be released, seven years after her passing. Fisher, known for her iconic role in “Star Wars,” completed filming for the movie just six weeks before her death in 2016. The film is scheduled to premiere in theaters and will also be available digitally on June 23. Although a trailer has not been released yet, the official synopsis describes “Wonderwell” as a coming-of-age fairy tale that takes place in both modern-day Italy and an imaginary realm. It follows Violet, a curious 12-year-old girl, on a thrilling journey that forever transforms her world. Director Vlad Marsavin revealed that it took seven years for the film to come together due to Fisher’s unexpected death, challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and visual effects issues that strained the budget. Marsavin expressed his belief that now is the perfect time to share Fisher’s magical on-screen moments, as she portrayed the character Hazel in “Wonderwell.” Marsavin shared fond memories of filming with Fisher, mentioning that she exhibited incredible energy on set and even celebrated her 60th birthday with the entire team in Italy. In fact, the celebrations were cut short by the police due to noise complaints. Fisher’s sudden passing deeply affected the entire team. Singer Rita Ora, Nell Tiger Free, and Sebastian Croft are among the other cast members in the film. Marsavin confirmed that “Wonderwell” will feature a dedication to the late actress and author.
