In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old American tourist in Germany is now facing murder and attempted murder charges. According to CBS News, the suspect lured two fellow US tourists to a secret viewpoint from where they could see the famous Neuschwanstein Castle, known for inspiring Disney’s Cinderella. However, things took a tragic turn when the suspect allegedly pushed both women over a steep cliff. The victims, a 22-year-old woman and her 21-year-old friend, fell 165 feet, as reported by The Guardian. At the scene, the suspect was apprehended by the police.
The younger woman sadly lost her life, while her friend, who miraculously survived with only minor injuries, owes her life to a fallen tree that halted her descent down the steeper portion of the cliff. The Daily Mail reported that the deceased woman has been identified as Eva Liu, 21, and her friend as Kelsey Chang, 22. Both were recent graduates of the University of Illinois, according to WCIA. University spokesperson Robin Kaler expressed condolences and highlighted the tragic nature of the incident, stating that the two young women should have been able to celebrate their recent graduation without such fear and tragedy.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with photographic or video evidence related to the attack to submit it on a dedicated website. So far, about a dozen submissions have been received, as per The Guardian. The suspect and victims, although not previously acquainted, were all staying at Munich’s Seibel Hotel and were part of the same organized tour to Neuschwanstein Castle. The incident took place near the Marienbrücke, a bridge known for its scenic views. The location is situated in the Swabia region of Bavaria, close to the Austrian border.
