Rebel Moon Trailer Unveiled: Zack Snyder’s Netflix Movie Promises Epic Sequel

Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Part 1 of Zack Snyder’s highly anticipated sci-fi saga “Rebel Moon,” entitled “A Child of Fire.” The film is set to premiere on December 22, 2023, with Part 2, titled “The Scargiver,” following on April 19, 2024.

The story revolves around a mysterious young woman played by Sofia Boutella. As the despotic ruler Regent Balisarius threatens their peaceful colony on the outskirts of the galaxy, she embarks on a quest to find skilled fighters who can defend against the impending invasion.

The official logline sets the stage: “In a fight for survival, Kora (Boutella), a stranger with an enigmatic past, must unite with trained warriors to resist the forces of the tyrannical ruling power. This gathering of individuals from different worlds, including outsiders, insurgents, peasants, and war orphans, share a common desire for redemption and revenge. Together, they face the full might of the Mother World in a battle that will determine the fate of the entire galaxy and give rise to a new generation of heroes.”

The trailer is a visual feast, with a plethora of sci-fi and fantasy elements. It showcases a prophesied princess, spaceships unleashing laser attacks on an unsuspecting village, talking robots, a menacing spider creature, a badass wielding glowing red laser swords, a majestic flying creature reminiscent of a pegasus, and plenty of slow-motion shots.

The star-studded cast includes Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Ray Fisher, Anthony Hopkins, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, Cleopatra Coleman, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, and Sky Yang, among others.

Snyder initially conceived the project as a pitch for a story within the “Star Wars” universe, predating Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012. While working on his Netflix film “Army of the Dead” in 2021, he reimagined the sci-fi tale as an original concept and plans to develop “Rebel Moon” into a franchise for the streaming platform. The project draws inspiration from Snyder’s deep admiration for “Star Wars” and the films of Akira Kurosawa.

“Rebel Moon” is directed by Snyder, who co-wrote the script with Shay Hatten (“Army of the Dead,” “John Wick 3”) and Kurt Johnstad (“300,” “Atomic Blonde”). The film is produced by Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Eric Newman, with Sarah Bowen serving as an executive producer under the Grand Electric banner.

The collaboration between Snyder and Netflix continues with “Rebel Moon” after the success of their film “Army of the Dead,” which garnered 72 million views within its first four weeks, according to the streaming platform. Snyder has also released a spinoff titled “Army of Thieves” and is currently working on a sequel and an anime spinoff series.
