Randy Meisner, Co-Founder and Bassist of the Eagles, Passes Away at 77

Randy Meisner, an acclaimed singer, bassist, and co-founder of the Eagles, known for his contribution to the band’s hit song “Take It to the Limit,” passed away in Los Angeles at the age of 77. The cause of his death was complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as confirmed by the band.

The band’s statement highlighted Meisner’s pioneering role in the music industry, particularly as the original bass player for the country-rock group Poco. It emphasized his involvement in the musical revolution that emerged in Los Angeles during the late 1960s.

Meisner’s musical journey continued when he co-founded the Eagles in 1971, alongside Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Bernie Leadon. Together, they contributed to the band’s iconic albums, including “Eagles,” “Desperado,” “On The Border,” “One of These Nights,” and “Hotel California.” In recognition of their immense talent and influence, the Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

Described as an integral part of the Eagles’ early success, Meisner possessed an astonishing vocal range that became evident in his signature ballad, “Take It to the Limit.” After leaving the Eagles in 1977, he embarked on a solo career and collaborated with several new bands. Unfortunately, due to health complications, he had not performed in public since 2008. He even declined an offer to rejoin the Eagles for their 2013 tour.

Prior to his work with Poco, Meisner gained experience performing with Rick Nelson’s Stone Canyon Band. He was married twice and leaves behind three children.
