Qantas, the Australian airline, has recently declared that its cabin crew can now opt for flat shoes, longer hair, and makeup, irrespective of their gender. This decision comes after the aviation company recognized the long-standing exasperations of its staff, as reported by The Guardian. Although Qantas has not modified its uniforms, it has abolished specific requirements for male and female cabin crew. The airline has responded to the requests of its female cabin crew and permitted them to don practical and comfortable flat shoes instead of high heels even during long-haul flights. The new policy aims to revamp and modernize the uniform while ensuring maximum comfort to all staff. Also, employees can now sport the same jewelry, watches, and diamond earrings regardless of gender prejudice. The new policy, however, mandates the concealment of tattoos and requires hosiery when worn with a dress or skirt. Qantas’ decision arises after the Australian Services Union mailed a letter to the CEO of Qantas, Alan Joyce, requesting the relaxation of makeup and high heel standards for women. In another news, Qantas recently introduced the “Neighbour Free” option for its economy class passengers to ensure a comfortable travel experience by guaranteeing them extra space and comfort with prices starting from $30 (€18.50). Qantas operates in over 85 major cities across 36 countries throughout the Asia-Pacific, the Americas, Europe, and South Africa.
